A stray dog in Thailand has been hailed as a hero this week, after coming to the aid of a newborn baby which had been abandoned in a dumpster.
The scene was witnessed by sixty-five year old Noi Pongsakorn, who had left his house in tambon Samet of Muang district, in order to purchase dinner, when he saw two stray dogs fighting over what he assumed to be a toy doll.
Noi watched as another stray dog joined the others – one he regularly feeds and has named ‘Nom Sod’ – but instead of grabbing the ‘toy’, it barked and growled until the dogs dropped it, before gently picking it up and carrying it into the street near to the bemused Noi.
By this point Noi had realized the ‘doll’ was in fact a tiny newborn baby, and encouraged the dog to drop it, before calling paramedics. Once in hospital, the baby was found to have non-life threatening bite marks and scratches, as well as extreme fatigue.
Nom Sod has since been praised by locals, and given a collar and grilled chicken as a ‘reward’.
