JACKSBORO, Tenn. — A 23-month-old toddler spent an entire night in an old pig pen after he was abandoned by his mother. He would not have been found if it weren’t for a Pit Bull who mysteriously appeared by his side.
Last week, staff at the Wagging Tails Pet Resort in Jacksboro heard crying coming from the nearby woods. They searched for the source of the noise when they came across a 23-month-old toddler, wearing only a diaper, in an old hog pen. Next to him was a brindle Pit Bull mix.
“It was maybe protecting it like it was its little baby. It followed us up there where we held the baby until the police came,” said Kristin Dutton from Wagging Tails.
“If that Pit Bull would not have been there our dogs wouldn’t have been barking at it, so we might never have found the kid.”
The little boy’s mother, Virginia Cora-Lee Seal, was arrested and charged with aggravated child abuse and neglect. She claimed she was high on meth at the time and had given the boy to someone she thought was his father.
The mystery Pit Bull mix is believed to be owned by Charles Pittman. The dog, named Dixie, has spent some time with the Seals in the past which could be why she stood guard.
Unfortunately, Dixie hasn’t been seen since the toddler was found. Pittman is asking for the public’s help to find his dog.
“She looks like a Brindle Pit Bull but she’s more of a light brown with white on her,” said Pittman. He doesn’t have a photo of her but says she resembles another dog that is in the care of Wagging Tails.
If you see a dog that resembles Dixie, please call the Campbell County Animal Shelter at 423-566-1892. This hero needs to find her way home!
