There are a multitude of reasons for a dog to be particularly stinky, from coat and skin type to allergies, poor diet and hygiene. As it turns out, not all dogs’ ability to produce scent is the same. Between all of the different types of breeds, there are certain dogs that are more inclined to leave an odour behind. Although there are ways to help combat every dog’s smell, such as with the help of this doggy bed as mentioned previously on 3 Million dogs, there are some dogs that are known for producing less smell. Scroll down to the bottom of this article to do a quiz about how stinky your dog is. In the meantime, here is a list of the seven least stinky dog breeds.
1. basenji
The Basenji is one of the cleanest dog breeds that produces little to no odour due to its short coat that does not trap any smells. An additional perk to this breed is that it rarely barks but instead creates a noise that sounds like a yodel.
2. bichon Frisé
The Bichon Frisé is a non-shedding dog, which has naturally clean skin. Unlike other dogs that don’t shed, their skin has no excessive wax build-up that could produce an odour.
3. Maltese
The Maltese is so small that it can be easily washed but they also have no excessive folds on their skin that can trap smell and are a non-shedding dog. They are also not inclined to wax buildup on their skin.
4. Poodle
The poodle has a reputation for being a hypoallergenic dog, meaning it won’t cause allergies. Because of this it also produces very little doggy odour.
5. dalmation
The Dalmatian’s short and dense coat protects it from the majority of doggy odour. This breed makes for a great active companion dog.
6. schnauzer
All Schnauzers have the same coat-type regardless of their size, which lacks the traditional doggy odour smell.
7. Portugese WATER DOG
The Portuguese Water Dog has a very thin, curly coat that isn’t prone to trapping dog smell. Of course, it is important to note that proper care and grooming is the surest way to ensure that your dog doesn’t smell.

I had a Jack Russel which was a very stinky dog even after a good soapy bath would still smell and I two days was very smelly !!!!
Siberian Hiskies don’t have a doggy smell. If they get wet they smell like wet wool but once dry, odour free.
We’ve never washed ours and we’ve had huskies for over 25 years.
I have had 4 Samoyeds, and none of them had an odor. I don’t know whether it’s because they have self cleaning coats, meaning if their coats are covered with mud, when it dries, it just drops off. or it’s inherent in the breed. Whatever it is, it’s a pleasure to be around them.
I had a Basenji until last October when she passed away. My experience was that this breed is indeed the cleanest fog bree out there. She had no odor whatsoever even if she got wet. She was a tri-color Basenji, black, tan and white. Her white hair was white 24/7/365. The breed has the cat like trait of cleaning itself daily. Going to rescue a Basenji as soon as I can. I love this breed.
My Weimaraner is so clean and at 5 years has had only 3 baths, they have such a short velvety coat and don’t shed like other short haired dogs and no doggy odor at all, groomers who cut her nails tell me that also their experience with this breed is the same and she is so loving and intuitive to my feelings and bring them to the park and they are loyal for life, but so we’re my Boxers except they may or may not have a smell and even though are short and sleek hair it still sheds more than a Weim and their hair can be like little needles. My 62 years of having Maltese Schnauzers Boxers Rottweiler (which smell) Yorkies Poodles Pugs, my Weimaraner beats all
You forgot Tibetan Terriers who are cold weather dogs with hair. The cold environment they were originally bred in made it important that they not sweat a lot so they have very little sweat glands. Consequently unless they rolled in something or farted they don’t smell doggy at all.
