Are you wondering why your dog is acting weird or even somewhat depressed after a vet visit? Maybe it’s because you took him to his least favorite place ever…dun, dun, dun…THE VET! That’s it, your dog hates you. I kid, I kid. Your dog is probably acting different after returning from the vet for some of the same reasons as my dog. My fiancee took Simba to the vet this week for his checkup and he had to get some shots. I’m guessing he didn’t like that too much, but I mean who would? I totally hate getting shots. I don’t act weird after getting a shot or two though, but my Mini Schnauzer Simba sure did. He wasn’t happy at all after leaving the vet. He was soooo sad.
All Simba did was mope around and sleep. He was very standoffish. He’s usually happy go lucky and wants all of my attention. Well, he didn’t want any of my attention that day. There was no running to the door to greet me with his wagging tail and no cuddle time was being had at all. I would call him and he would just look at me as if to say “yeah, I hear you, but I’m not moving…you want me? Come to me..not…budging!” I felt so bad for him and even a little weird myself because my dog wanted to be left alone.
Your dog may act weird after a vet visit because he’s sore from the dog vaccinations or whatever else he had done to him that day. Perfectly normal! Your dog is just hurting a bit and doesn’t want to move around too much for fear of hurting more. He’s just being extra careful and just staying to himself until all of the soreness and whatnot goes away. He also just may not feel so well from the dog vaccines and is trying to sleep it off.
The next day, Simba was pretty much back to normal. I still think he’s a tad bit sore, but he’s almost back to the happy go lucky sweetest dog ever. He comes to me when I call him and he even jumped in my lap so he could get some belly rubs. Yep, he’s definitely back to normal. I think he’s feeling much better!
If you feel that your dog is still being tooo weird for you, give your vet a call. I’m sure your vet would be happy to explain what your dog might be feeling (soreness, tiredness, a little scared, etc) and even happy to see you and your dog again to make sure everything is fine just to be on the safe side.
