Social media really worked its magic this time, helping Shelton, a young mutt from Resistencia, Argentina find his forever home. Shelton was abandoned and homeless, scavenging for food and trying to find a safe place to spend the night. Lucky for him, a group of students, school librarians and other locals fell in love with the lovable pup and took it upon themselves to help him survive.
During school hours, Shelton was welcomed inside the school library, even having his own box for him to sleep in. But once school closed, Shelton had to return to his life back on the streets.
Although he was fed Monday to Friday by the school librarians, and on the weekends, a kind woman took over the feeding task, but when the school was closed for summer or winter break, poor Shelton was on his own with no one to look out for him.
But thanks to the power of social media, and the local rescue group Responsible Adoptions (Adopciones Responsables Chaco) Shelton’s days as a homeless dog would soon be over.
A volunteer with the organization was contacted by the librarians regarding this little dogs story, and she went out to meet him. The volunteer, Zaira Kordi, instantly fell in love with the library dog.
“Shelton is very special, he is not your regular stray dog,” Kordi said. “He has a lot of personality and is very gentle and friendly. He adores children and is always looking for a loving human touch. You can tell he is not happy as a stray dog and he is looking for a home of his own where he will be really loved.”
After meeting the dog, Kordi took photos of him and posted them on Facebook. She hoped that his story would be shared and someone in the area would come forward to adopt him.
Social media really worked its magic with Shelton, with his story being shared over 800 times across Facebook. That was how his new guardian, Maria Rosa Zago, and her family learned about Shelton. The Zago family adopted the little library dog, and now he has two human siblings, a roof over his head, and the unconditional love he deserves.
Kordi hopes that Shelton’s story will inspire other families to take in stray dogs and give them the homes and love they deserve, and hopefully other dogs like Shelton will find their own happy endings.
