Chester, a 6-year-old Pit Bull mix has finally found a family, and it’s all thanks to a picture that went viral on Social Media. After spending 5 years at the North Fork Animal Welfare League (NFAWL), in Long Island, New York, he finally has a place to call his own.
On Wednesday afternoon, NFAWL manager Gabby Stroup launched a Facebook Page titled, “Chester: Waiting Five Years” and the response more than they could have hoped for. This picture in particular was shared over 6000 times and they were flooded with calls and emails coming in from as far away as Australia, Nova Scotia, and England, as the Internet, as always, worked it’s social media magic.
Stroup says they have received over 300 emails, and they are still coming in from as far away as England. “There were more phone calls then I can count; the phone just never stopped. People called from Illinois, North Carolina, South Carolina, Mississippi, Michigan, Oregon, New Jersey Wisconsin, Nova Scotia, Australia and more — people tearing up as they called.”
This is when the Dor family came into Chester’s life. They came to meet him at the shelter and it was the perfect fit. Chester could not stop covering their faces with his happy kisses. The two boys in the family have been wanting a dog for some time and are absolutely delighted with their new canine companion.
Stroup mentions that there are many other dogs in the same shelter who are looking for loving homes and plans to post pictures of another dog to Chester’s page this week in hopes for another happy ending.
This is the video that Stroup had hoped would lure people to the lovable dog.
