I think I speak for every pet owner when I say that my worst nightmare is not being able to safely get my dog out in the event of a fire. In Atlanta, Caitlin Strischek was in this very situation this past weekend. A fire quickly began tearing through her apartment building when she wasn’t home, but nearby at work. She saw the flames and rushed home, frantic over her beloved dog, Marley. She was inconsolable as she watched with her other neighbors, also concerned about their pets. Even though the firefighters had a struggle containing the fire, they were able to get to the tenants’ pets.
When Strischek saw Marley, she was absolutely overjoyed. Firefighter Monty Adams was the one who pulled Marley to safety and gave credit to Strischek for giving him a good idea of where Marley would be – curled up in his favorite chair, just waiting for someone to come get him. Caitlin and Marley shared a beautiful moment when they were reunited, but she took the time to thank the firefighters over and over for saving her best friend. Leah Seidell was also soon able to thank the firefighters for saving her cat, Sammie, who was covered in soot and water, but otherwise just fine.
Some of these neighbors lost everything, but all agreed that they were just happy everyone and their pets were safe. Strischek said Marley was the only thing she cared about and needed from her apartment. She rescued Marley when she was a college student and couldn’t imagine life without him. I think most of us would feel exactly the same. Watch video of their reunion captured live on the news here:
