The number of billionaires in the world is rising, and with that the need and demand for more personal staff. Gardeners, chefs and cleaners aren’t enough nowadays. Britain is now the billionaire hotspot with 104 billionaires. The super-rich in the UK are looking toward hiring dog nannies to spend time and to cater to their dogs 24-hours-a-day. These nannies are not only in charge of walks but also washing, grooming, feeding and just hanging out. They are basically governesses in charge of the family pets and their entire well-being.
“I was basically the dogs’ confidante. I would take them for walks, feed them, hang out with them,” says one dog nanny known as Samantha.
Nina Cole, owner of Nina’s Nannies, says she can’t keep up with that demand.
‘We’ve certainly seen an increase in business in the last couple of years. I’m having to turn work down because we haven’t got the live-in sitters to cope,’ she explains.
Even though it is the super-rich that are her main clients, she does try to keep her prices affordable for everyone. Some companies charge between £23 and £50 ($34 and $74 USD) a night. In fact, a dog nanny in the UK can earn upwards of £50,000 (or approximately $74,000 USD) a year.
Other companies, such as West London Petsitter, charge £100 ($150 USD) a day for live-in care. Ms. Verschuren, owner of West London Petsitter, says her clients dogs are like their children. Who wouldn’t want the spend as much as possible for a constant companion for their beloved dog?
Although some dog nannies bring the dogs into their own homes when their owners are away, it’s now becoming more common to have the nanny live in-house, whether it be for a few weeks, a few months and sometimes over a year.
Who wouldn’t want to play with dogs all day long? For those who love dogs more than they love children this may be the dream job they have been looking for.
