In Fort Worth, Texas a ten-year old boy is now facing felony animal cruelty charges after beating a neighbours King Charles Cavalier mix to death. Jennifer Knittel was away from her home when the boy went into her backyard, grabbed a stick and started beating the dog.
Knittel’s neighbour was first to discover the abuse when she spotted the boy walking away from a lifeless dog with a stick in his hand. When she confronted the boy, he casually said the dog was just sleeping. Eventually after tailing him she called the police.
Jennifer Knittel was heartbroken to learn that her King Charles named Cookie died from a blow to the head with a branch that cracked her skull and broke her spine.
After police confronted the boy, he claimed that he acted in self-defence but Knittel finds that hard to believe as the dog was in a fenced-off area. Knittel says she didn’t have a lock on her gate because she felt that she didn’t need one.
All Jennifer Knittel wants now is for everyone to be aware that things like this can happen but more importantly, she wants the boy to get the help that he needs becaue behaviour like that is not normal.
