A poll from UK retailer ‘Matalan’ aiming to better understand how the concept of ‘family’ has changed over the course of time has revealed a little more than they bargained for.
When they asked people to identify who they considered to be “close family members”, only twenty-one per cent of those asked opted for their mother- or father-in-law, versus the twenty-two per cent who opted for their pets!
Behavioural expert, Mark Earls, said:
“Pets really add to the richness of the modern family and are considered just as important as close relatives and friends. Dogs are more like us than many other pets – they’re social creatures who appreciate being part of a family and those who look after them.”
Who would you choose?!
