Police busted a New Jersey dog fighting ring last Friday, having received a tip-off from a local resident. They intercepted a fight, which was being held in a car wash, around 10:30pm and managed to rescue three pit bulls in the process. One remains in a critical condition but the others look likely to make a full recovery.
Four men have been arrested for their involvement – one of whom was found hiding in a closet – including the building’s tenant, Michael Coleman, who is believed to be the main organizer. Others charged with animal cruelty were Michael Rochelin, Jerry Mosquea and Erasmo Rosado (the building landlord, who claimed he had no knowledge of the fight).
Chief Animal Control Officer John DeCando said:
“The only thing he wanted to do was lick you. He was so happy to see us. The other two pit bulls were uninjured but malnourished.”
Syringes containing what police believe to be steroids were also found close to the scene.
