Daisy is an 18-month-old American Bulldog and Boxer mix that was found stabbed several times in the chest and abdomen last month in April in Lancaster, PA. She had been abandoned in a ditch and left to die when authorities found her. Organization for the Responsible Care of Animals (ORCA) claimed her immediately and with the SPCA, took her to get emergency surgery to save her life. She’s had an extensive recovery period, but this past week, the SPCA decided it was time to start looking for her forever home.

Her story had been shared through local news, so there was a lot of interest generated, but one man, Alex Von Neida, knew that they were meant to be together. He says that Daisy stole his heart the moment he met her, when she jumped up on him and gave him a kiss. For a dog that had been through so much at the hand of humans, Daisy still had nothing but love for Alex. In the quiet moment captured below, Alex whispered into Daisy’s ear, “I’ll keep you safe.”

Unfortunately, there has not been much progress in figuring out who did such a horrific thing to Daisy. There have been a few leads, but nothing concrete. When the perpetrators are found, however, the SPCA is hoping for a charge of a first-degree misdemeanor. In the meanwhile, Daisy and Alex plan to spend lots of time cuddling on the couch with more moments just like this.
