Victor Jaime and his friends decided to take his white Jeep, now nicknamed the “White Knight”, out for a drive and they made a stop at Portillo’s at 100 W Ontario St, in River North, Chicago. They also decided to bring along Jaime’s English Bulldog, George. According to Jaime, George would have loved some Italian beef from Portillo’s.
They parked at a nearby Walgreen’s and ran inside for a few moments, leaving George inside the running Jeep. When they came out the Jeep was hooked up to a tow truck and it was beginning to drive away. Jaime ran alongside the tow truck yelling at him to stop and then he was able to jump into the driver’s seat of his Jeep.
Jaime could feel the Jeep being raised higher and he felt that the driver, who Jaime says knew he was in there, was trying to force him out of the car. Jaime refused to go seeing as his best buddy, George, was still inside the car.
Jaime decides to lay on the gas to set himself, his car and his pup free. In the video you can hear Jaime yelling, “Hey buddy, watch this!” to the tow truck driver.
According to a lawyer that Jaime has spoken with, his car was being illegally towed.
Illinois law states, “No vehicle shall be relocated where the owner of the vehicle or the owner’s agent is present or arrives on the scene before the vehicle is completely removed from the private property, produces the ignition key to the vehicle, and the owner or agent is able and does immediately remove the vehicle from the private property.”
Regardless, Jaime is just happy that he has his dog back at home.
