A Missouri resident has been hailed as a hero after spending two hours protecting a dog he found who had been a victim of a hit-and-run.
Anthony Braughton found the female dog in the middle of the road, with both legs broken, after she had been hit by a car which then failed to stop. Not willing to leave her, Braughton got out of his vehicle and called for help, before initially moving the pup safely underneath a bridge where she was sheltered from the rain.
Good Samaritan Braughton still had his delivery job to do, but knowing he couldn’t leave the dog behind, he helped her into the backseat of his van, before zipping her up in his own jacket to keep her warm, and made her a bed out of newspapers to keep her as comfortable as possible.
At approximately 5am, help arrived in the form of KC Pet Project, an NPO who rely on donations to care for animals involved in road accidents and left for dead – an estimated four dog cases per day. Braughton has since checked up on the pup regularly, and is hoping to adopt her once she’s made a full recovery.
