Residents of North Mankato in Minnesota have grown concerned over a black Labrador that has been roaming the area with a plastic jug stuck on his head for the past three weeks. Katherine and Don Nelson knew that the dog had been starving and didn’t have much time left if he didn’t get some help. So, with their friend, Sue Leach, they devised a plan to capture him.
They set a live trap with food in it, and while it didn’t work, they were then able to track the dog’s paw prints in the snow. After arriving at a swampy area, they saw him taking a nap and Don quickly picked the dog up. Obviously, the poor pup fought back a little, but didn’t have enough energy to keep doing so.
The Nelsons loaded him into their van and drove him to Minnesota Valley Pet Hospital. As they pulled into the parking lot, the dog freed himself from the jug. They took him inside, however, and he is being treated for malnourishment and being looked over by the veterinary staff there that is donating their time and and services to get him back on his feet. The Nelsons will foster him once he’s well enough and hope to find him a good home with a big, fenced-in backyard.
