Just a couple of days before Easter, Harley the dog was separated from his family during a car crash. The rear window was knocked out when the car flipped several times, allowing a very scared Harley to escape and take flight. His owner, Christopher Gehm, had checked on his son who was also in the car, and while they were physically okay, both were very upset to find that Harley had run away from the accident scene. Almost immediately, Gehm began an online and on-the-ground search for their beloved family dog.

In an effort to find Harley as quickly as possible, Gehm decided to contact Tracey Morgan-Chopick of Luzerne County Pet Recovery Services, who specializes in helping find lost, scared dogs. They are well-versed in monitoring and capturing pets such as those in Harley’s situation and don’t charge for their services. Morgan-Chopick was immediately concerned for Harley, because she knew he was in flight mode and wouldn’t stop for anyone, not even his owner. After six days and nights of searching, they knew the woods he was located in and set a trap cage, hoping to lure him. Amazingly, Harley went in and Gehm and Morgan-Chopick were there to meet him soon after.

Gehm was overwhelmed with joy and noted how he considers Harley to be a part of the family. After getting a check-up at the local veterinarian, Harley finally went home. He was treated for some minor blisters and injuries to his paws from running around in the woods for a few days, but he seems to be getting back to normal at home as Gehm shared this picture of them. It’s a blessing for this family that everyone involved was okay!
