DURHAM, England — A pet Poodle has demonstrated the ultimate devotion to her young 24-year-old owner, by refusing to leave her side even after she passed away. Katie McIver died peacefully in her sleep on July 7 for reasons that are yet to be determined by a medical professional. Her Poodle Lily was the only one by her side at the time of death and remained glued to Katie until her mother discovered her body the following day.
The family says that Lily and Katie were inseparable ever since Katie’s brother gave the dog to her as a gift almost two years ago. When the girl’s mother walked into the bedroom the morning of her death, she suspected that something was wrong as the dog’s behaviour was unusual. Lily normally runs around the house every morning, but that morning she lay oddly still pressed tightly up against Katie’s body.
Lily struggled to be separated from her beloved owner, so the McIver’s ensured that Lily was able to attend the funeral service for Katie. Lily travelled in the family car on the way to the funeral and sat idly by the casket during the ceremony. According to the family, the dog who did everything with Katie has definitely been affected by her absence. As previously reported on 3MillionDogs here and here, dogs frequently mourn the loss of their owners in the most touching and heartbreaking ways.
