There are few things more heartbreaking than a story of an unwanted, terminally-ill dog that has been given up on. These stories end with the dogs being euthanized in a shelter and all alone.
One couple in Conroe, Texas have stepped up to the plate to take on these sick dogs and to give them a happy and loving life with the companionship they need until the very end.
“You want to make sure that they know before they pass somebody cared and somebody loved them,” says Priyanka Johri.
Created by Johri and her husband Ravi Grover, The Pure Mutts Animal Sanctuary has been giving these sicks dogs – some with cancers and other skin diseases – a place to feel unconditional love. Johri says that it was something that she was meant to do. Their sanctuary houses between 25-30 dogs at a time within a 3,000 square foot home on a 2 acre property and they become attached to every dog that comes through their lives.
Although it does hurt when a member of the pack passes away, they still get up every day to give these dogs the care they need and the love they deserve to be surrounded by.
“Another dogs needs you,” says Johri, “You just have to get up and keep doing.”
The sanctuary receives calls from local shelters and hospitals letting them know of dogs that have been left by families that couldn’t afford their care. Johri and Grover step up to the place and take the dogs in.
The Pure Mutts Sanctuary is run on donations only. If you like to help, please visit Pure Mutts Animal Sanctuary website to find out how.
