KANSAS CITY, Miss. — Harry, named for his overgrown coat of fur, is one of the worst cases of neglect KC Pet Project had ever seen. His fur became so matted that it added up to five pounds, which needed to be removed. After sedating him, it took volunteers and groomers over two hours to shave all of it off. When they did, they saw that Harry was also incredibly emaciated underneath. Most of his nose was missing and he is partially blind. It seemed that his eyelashes had grown into his eyes and scratched the corneas.
But despite all of this, everyone that worked with him spoke of his sweet demeanor and gentle nature. Harry still has so much love to give and after his haircut he seemed so much happier. They have figured him to be a 4-year-old Chow Chow and tonight, he’s getting love, attention, and sleeping on a nice, soft bed. The veterinary staff is trying to determine the best course of action for his nose, which may require skin grafts to cover the holes. For now, they’re asking that you send lots of good thoughts his way! If you wanted to donate towards his care, you can do so at www.kcpetproject.org/donate. If you select Roadrunner Fund-Harry, your gift will even be worth double, as Petco Foundation will match it.
