On Sunday, April 26, Dan Spangler and his dog, Spanky, will embark on a journey of almost 6,000 miles to raise awareness about animal rescue and raise funds for his charity called “Dreamer’s Foundation.” Spangler credits Spanky with saving his life when he returned from war a few years ago. The Marine vet went through a lot of emotional and physical challenges and adopted Spanky as a source of companionship, but Spanky ended up changing his life.

When Dan couldn’t find employment, he started working as a dog trainer, gaining most of his experience by working one-on-one with Spanky. Since then, he’s set up the Dreamer’s Foundation as a way to help people in his community and other veterans keep their pets when faced with hardship. He knows firsthand how important it is to have your pup by your side when going through rough times. Over the course of the 30-day journey, Dan and Spanky are aiming to raise $100,000 to help set up a new pet food bank program for the foundation.
