Amber, a one-year-old Bull Mastiff, lives with her owner, Jack Oldham in Barrow, England. Without any warning, Amber suddenly began having trouble walking and it seemed as though she lost control of her back legs. Oldham rushed her to the veterinarian, where he was told that there was a problem with a disc in her spine, and that she would need very expensive surgery to remedy it. His other option would be to put her down. Obviously, Oldham was devastated and couldn’t bare the thought of his losing his furry companion, but he didn’t have access to that kind of money.
Like most of us, Oldham shared his dilemma on his Facebook page with posts about Amber and how much he cared for her. And then, something amazing happened. His friends began to rally around him, and wanted to donate towards her surgery. A mutual friend, Stacey Wilson, saw the posts and set up a GoFundMe page to raise money for Amber’s surgery. In the first day, 68 donations were made and about a third of the money was raised! Oldham is overwhelmed by the generosity of both his friends and complete strangers and knows that the surgery may just be the beginning of Amber’s healing. He’s prepared to help her through rehabilitation and whatever else she needs, however. Watch video of Amber here:
