COSTA MESA, Calif — Last Tuesday afternoon, a small dog got its leg stuck in a bathtub drain and firefighters rescued it the only way they knew how — with a sledgehammer and chisel.
The dog’s owners were trying to bathe it in their 18th Street apartment, when they were unable to free its paw from the drain, said Capt. Nick Cerciello.
That’s when emergency crews arrived around 12:45 p.m. to help free the dog. Although the curly haired canine wasn’t really cooperating because it was barking and biting, firefighters managed to free the pet in about half an hour.
“Didn’t have a limp or anything,” said Cerciello, who advised the family to have the dog checked just in case.
The dog bolted down the stairs after it was rescued, away from the commotion. He is doing just fine now.
