This Chihuahua was born without two front legs but that doesn’t stop him! The six-week-old rescue from Colne, Lancashire, has flourished and learned how to move around using just his back legs — by hopping. Like a kangaroo.
“He doesn’t realize there is anything wrong with him and acts like a normal Chihuahua. He climbs the stairs if you don’t keep an eye on him and uses his long back legs to jump around the house like a kangaroo, which is why we called him Roo,” said Paula Knowles, who runs the dog charity Pendle Dogs in Need.
Knowles believes Roo would be even more mobile with the help of some wheels, which would allow him to play outside. Because of his disability, he can’t go outside in case he gets injured and misses out on regular contact with other dogs.
Other than his legs, there is nothing wrong with Roo. He had a full health check when he first arrived at the centre and it was all positive.
“Whatever Roo had come in with, we knew we would have helped him and found a way to cope. Now we just need someone out there who can help him become even more mobile,” says Knowles.
This Roo isn’t too diffeent from the other two-legged Roo in Romania! The Romanian Roo was born with only three legs but lost one of them in an accident. Like the Chihuahua Roo, she also learned to adapt with two legs and sometimes hops around like a kangaroo to get around.
