It’s a reality that we all must face, that our pets (and ourselves) wont be here forever. We get slower as we age, and slowly break down. What if you could prevent this though, what if you could hold back the aging process?
Researchers at the University of Washington may have found a way to extend your dogs life. It has extended the life of yeast, fruit flies, worms and mice. The chemical Rapamycin is already used in organ transplants. It has been shown to increase life span from between 9 to 40 percent with very little side effects.
Anti aging is currently a huge market, it seems strange that nobody has capitalized on our fear of our pets aging when the market is flooded with products for humans. The drug is currently “off patent” meaning that if you had the knowledge and the means, you could start your own doggie-life-extending miracle drug factory, if you were so inclined.
This doesn’t just make the animal live longer, it makes them young longer, it delays the onset of age related health issues.
Would you do it though? Often the reason for a dog being put down is their health problems are causing them pain. Would you extend your dogs life if you knew the aging process would also slow?
