Chaser, the Border Collie who was featured on an episode of 60-minutes is undoubtedly one of the smartest dogs in the world. With an understanding of over 1000 words in her vocabulary she can identify exactly 1,022 objects by name and retrieve them. With the largest tested memory of any dog, Chaser has really revolutionized how humans view the abilities of our canine friends.
During the 60-minute special led by Anderson Cooper, the audience gets to witness firsthand how Chaser responds to her owner John Pilley’s commands. Eighty-six year old retired psychology professor, Pilley has spent five hours a day, five days a week for the last 9 years teaching Chaser to become the genius dog that she is today.
According to scientists, most dogs have the capacity to reach the same level of intelligence as Chaser, however it is up to the human owner to devote the time to training their dog.
During the special, Pilley also demonstrates Chasers ability to recognize the difference between nouns and verbs. She follows direction without fail every time and truly impresses everyone who has the pleasure of witnessing this dog at work.
