A woman in Lima, Peru, bravely stepped onto the train tracks to rescue a dog. The dog was unable to jump back onto the platform, so she jumped down and picked up the dog up, both out of harm’s way soon after.
She is being called a heroine, with people calling the act courageous and heroic. Unfortunately, the Metro officials saw the act as a violation of the law, and she could be sentenced to a fine with 6 months or up to 6 years in prison.
People are shocked and appalled by her treatment, and are offering legal help should the Metro de Lima decide to press charges.
Metro personnel say that they recognize the woman was trying to help, but they cannot ignore the fact that jumping onto the tracks is illegal.
Officials claimed that they stopped all train traffic, so the dog was not in any danger and would not have been hit by any oncoming trains. They stated that the woman should have trusted that they would do their job instead of defying the rules.
