LAS VEGAS, Nevada – Nicky was an 8-year old K9 Belgian Malinois who was killed in the line of duty on March 31st, and who was honored in a funeral yesterday afternoon. For the occasion, his fellow K9 officers performed a bark of honor in his memory.
He was killed by friendly fire during a shootout between the police and a murder suspect. One of the 23 bullets shot by the police killed Nicky according to the Review Journal.
In February, Nicky suffered multiple cuts in his face and body after he was attacked by a suspect. He was out of duty recovering from his wounds for almost a month. On March 8th he returned to his job, so it’s even sadder that he survived such an attack just to get killed a month later.
The funeral was kept private but all the members of the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department were there to pay a tribute to Nicky. The K9s “bark of honor” consisted of the dogs barking loud while standing with their handlers in front of Nicky’s coffin. May he rest in peace.
