Great news for misunderstood breeds everywhere! A local law blanket banning the ownership of all PitBulls and Rottweilers with an even more brutish punishment has finally been overturned.
The move is after a massive internet campaign titled Save Zeus exploded on the internet following Zeus’ owner (Joanna Armand) pleading their case on CNN on Sunday. As of Wednesday (26th of Nov) the online petition had 290,000 signatures and the Facebook page had over 48,000 likes. The village of Moreauville has a population of around 1000 people. There have been recent reports of complaints about the breeds from residents.

Dog owners were told on November 24th if they did not find new homes located out of town for their Pitbulls and Rottweilers by December 1st, they would be confiscated and euthanized.
Doesn’t look so vicious.
On Monday, the 24th, alderman Penn Lemoine said they would be meeting again to revisit the ordinance due to the national backlash. The mayor, who was in the hospital during the debate, issued a statement on the matter:
We got a threat from PETA that said, if we didn’t repeal this ordinance, they had enough money to shut the Village of Moreauville down,” he said. “I wasn’t going to be known as the mayor and shut the Village of Moreauville down because of this.”
The threat from PETA has not been confirmed.
Lemoine later said that the board “Made a mistake” by passing the ordinance without considering more options and that they would likely get rid of the law or replace it with more understanding laws. The deadline was put on hold.
The mayor later said that the town will move to enact a Louisiana statute that punishes the owner instead of the pet.
It’s unfortunate that people take the easy way out and just ban something instead of trying to understand it, however it’s refreshing to see animal lovers unite to take down this unjust law.
Barack Obama has spoken out against breed specific legislation in the past.
Joanna Armand says she isn’t done fighting though. She wants to fight BSL wherever it crops up. She is even trying to get Zeus official certification as a therapy dog. He already functions as one; Joanna has a large family with children from foster care, adoption and other sources. When one of the children is in pain or needs help in the night, Zeus alerts Joanna and guides her to the child’s room.
“He’s my kid’s brother.” She said. “He’s our fur baby”
