A Royse City, Texas, volunteer firefighter (Tim Conatser) who shot and killed his neighbors two dogs and posted photos of their bodies on Facebook with the warning “Somebody didn’t put any truth my warning. Keep your damn dogs on your property.” has been arrested on animal cruelty charges.
People were outraged at the post, Conatser received death threats from places as far as Europe, even the Fire Department he volunteered for wasn’t spared from the salvos of internet hatred.
Good news for dog lovers everywhere however, as Tim Conatser was booked on two felony charges of animal cruelty on Wednesday, March 4th after turning himself in. The Union Valley Fire Department posted this status regarding the incident.
Since this is obviously not the fire departments fault, they’ve adopted a kind strategy towards people sending death threats. They’re moving on past the terrible event and focusing on helping others. They ask that if you do make a threat to their department, that you at least donate $1 to a GoFundMe campaign to help a girl named Kaitlyn suffering from Leukemia. Another, much longer post on their page explains their stance on the issue.
Now he’s even being referred to as “You Know Who” on their Facebook page.
They’ve taken a tragedy and turned it into an opportunity to help the community. There’s much more positive interaction on their page and they’ve already said that two more people want to volunteer. The resounding opinion of the nearby residents is that the UVFD was dealt a bad hand and they’re making the best of it.
We linked to a previous article discussing animal cruelty and it’s punishment. Will Tim Conatser go to jail and if so, for how long? He was booked for animal cruelty charges, he bragged about killing the dogs AND posted a picture of the bodies. A lot of people would consider that a confession, but no trial is a guarantee.
