Alan Spencer is lucky to be alive, and he says he owes his life to his dog, an 18 month old Labrador Retriever named Lexi. Mr. Spencer lives alone in his home in Withernsea, East Yorkshire, UK. He had just been settling into a dinner of crisp breads gherkin and picked onions when the worst happened. He began choking on the skin of the Onion.
‘I couldn’t get a breathe in. It was scary – it had been maybe I guess three or four minutes without a breathe.”
Spencer believed he was dying, as it had been too long since he had taken a breath. He described the dog as “frantic,” before she finally jumped on his back, an action that dislodged the onion from his throat. Spencer is certain that if Lexi had not been there he would have died that day, alone in his home. Of course this amazing hero of a pup has been rewarded with lots of treats that Spencer is all too happy to hand out to his life saving companion.
Lexi, the hero dog, is not the only dog who has saved her owner from choking. Back in 2012, an Akita named “Sheba” hit her choking owner on the back when she was choking on a piece of chicken, also saving her owner’s life. These loving heroic canines prove to us all that dogs are not only ” Man’s best friend,” But also “Man’s Guardian Angels.”
