Jacob Hills is a 5-year old autistic boy who in a way, is always at risk. He has no sense of danger, he is prone to wandering and he is drawn to water and moving cars. After doing a lot of research, his family decided a therapy dog was the best solution for him. The dog will help him walk alone, will protect him from running off and will help him relief his anxiety. He will also keep him company and be his first friend – Jacob also struggles to make connection with other people.
Jacob was accepted into the service dog program but the cost for training a dog for almost two years to become the certified service dog he needs, is $13,500. And the training cannot begin until the money is completely raised.
Jacob’s family set up a GoFundMe page to try to collect the money and Jacob’s sister had a great idea to encourage more people to donate. She and their cousin, a couple of 12-year old very creative girls, rewrote Taylor Swift’s “Blank Space” song and made a cover video.
They probably were not expecting that their video would actually reach Taylor Swift, but it did. And Taylor was so touched by it, that she decided to chip in with $10,000 for Jacob’s therapy dog.
In a little over a month, they managed to raise enough money and the dog’s training has begun. In a year and a half Jacob will welcome his dog into the family and all thanks to the people who donated and to his sister and his cousin that managed to inspire Taylor Swift herself.
