UDAIPUR, India — With the high volume of stay dogs roaming the streets of India, Animal Aid Unlimited India frequently comes to the rescue of ailing animals in need. So when they received a call about a dog who looked like he had a pig snout they knew they had to intervene and see if they could help the suffering animal. Volunteers from the rescue group approached the frail golden mutt and quickly noticed that the dog looked like he had a pig snout due to the extreme swelling on his head.
The dog was brought into the shelter to receive the medical care he so desperately needed. The veterinarian diagnosed him with having an abscess on his face that was causing the unique appearance of the pig’s snout. The veterinarian performed surgery on the dog, to remove the abscess, which he says was likely a result of an injury from a dog fight that became infected.
After the removal of the abscess, it took the stray two weeks to heal and for him to get his regular dog snout back. The dog is currently roaming the rescue group’s animal sanctuary. However it is yet unclear whether he will remain there or be released back into the wild. Most of the dogs that Animal Aid India perform surgery on, get released into the streets as the dogs travel in packs and are accustomed to life as strays. With the high number of strays there, it is near impossible to rescue them all.
