An emaciated dog who survived on nothing but rocks and twigs has finally gotten the happily-ever-after he deserves. Alex the Weimaraner was rescued in New Orleans when he was sighted on the streets looking like nothing but skin and bones. Southern Animal Foundation immediately brought him in, knowing that he was in dire need of medical attention.
An X-ray determined that the starving dog was eating rocks and twigs in an attempt to survive and after an emergency surgery, he was on the long road to recovery. Initially, the 45 pound dog was in intensive-care, where he received the proper medical attention and nutrition to get his weight up to a healthier number. Once healthy enough, he was transported to a foster house where two other Weimaraners were already living with owner Diane Lundeen.
At first, Lundeen was mesmerized by Alex’s piercing eyes but after spending 10 days in her care and gaining ten pounds, she knew she could never let Alex go. Alex was officially adopted by the Lundeen family, gaining two siblings and a new owner all at once. He is now living a happy and healthy life, weighing in at a hearty 80 pounds. Just by the look on the dog’s face, you can see what a difference these rescues can truly make. To see Weimaraner’s incredible journey and recovery, look through the gallery below.
