When rescuers at The Lake City Humane Society in Florida found an abandoned Pit Bull in a ditch, she and her young puppy were almost starved to death. However, thanks to some extra special attention and a lot of feeding up, the adorable pair have now made a full recovery.
So much so, in fact, that Lacey is doing everything she can to help other pups in the shelter in the only way she knows how – as a mother. When two litters of puppies who had been abandoned by their owners were admitted into the shelter, Lacey’s maternal instinct kicked in and she chose to foster the lot – 16 in total!
Lacey has since been nursing her adoptive babies and her biological pup together, and soon they will all be of an age where they can be adopted, happily and healthily, by loving families.
Laura Page, director at The Lake City Humane Society said:
“We have fantastic volunteer foster families who help with our homeless pets, but we could always use more. With Lacey, we have seen a great example of a dog who is willing to be a mother to so many puppies. She is so loving and gentle with them – but now she needs a break from motherhood!”
