Police officers in Colombia have been praised this week after risking their personal safety in order to pull a seemingly ‘dead’ dog out from a river and successfully bring him back to life, using CPR.
It is thought that the dog had fallen into the water when a mudslide occurred further up the Liboriana River, which is well-known by locals for it’s fast-flowing currents. Police had spotted the dog and ran alongside it on the riverbank, looking for an opportunity to pluck it out.
However, when the dog stopped moving, one unnamed officer knew they couldn’t wait any longer, and took it upon himself to jump straight into the water – almost getting pulled under by the swift current – in order to pull the dog to safety.
Once on the shore, another heroic official forced the animal’s mouth open before performing CPR, while a colleague gently massaged the dogs heart until it began breathing again, and regained consciousness.
The lucky pup is now expected to make a full recovery.
