BALTIMORE — Pit Bull Molly ran out onto an Amtrak train track in late January, when she was hit by an oncoming train. The train conductor operating the train did spot her but reveals he couldn’t stop in time to avoid her. Instead the man put out an emergency notice to ensure no other trains came into the tunnel as Amtrak police officer Kevin McMullen ran down to help the dog. When McMullen reached Molly, she had lost a lot of blood, had a severed hind leg and lost part of her tail. Yet incredibly she was still breathing and even managed to cover the officer in kisses.
Molly was then rushed to the Baltimore Animal Rescue and Care Shelter, where she underwent emergency surgery. After undergoing a successful treatment, the dog was then placed into foster care. Molly started on her path to recovery in foster care but Officer McMullen couldn’t stop thinking about the Pit Bull and would frequently visit her. McMullen reveals that every time Molly would see him she would light up and shower him with kisses. During one of the visits McMullen captured photos of him with Molly, which were posted online and made everyone start to question whether Molly could possibly find her forever home with McMullen?
Not long after, McMullen realized that he couldn’t part with Molly and on Valentine’s Day the two made it official. Molly moved in with McMullen, his girlfriend, their cat and three other dogs. McMullen hopes this story will help to breakdown stereotypes that surround both Pit Bulls and cops.
