NEW YORK — Groomer Mark Imhof knows all too well that shelter dogs often need all the help they can get when it comes to getting adopted. Unfortunately with the number of stray dogs entering shelters each year, it can be difficult for all of them to find a forever home. So Imhof decided to play his part in helping, by providing the dogs at Animal Care Centers of NYC (ACC) with free baths and haircuts to increase their odds of adoption.

Although Imhof had originally held a career as a consultant, a suggestion from his fiancee led to him quitting and eventually pursuing something he was passionate about- working with animals. Imhof enrolled at the American Academy of Pet Grooming and as a means of getting practice under his belt, he started to volunteer at the ACC shelter. Imhof then quickly realized how much a grooming session could transform these often abused and battered dogs and so there was no looking back for him.
Even after Imhof graduated from the grooming Academy, he continued to volunteer at the shelter to groom as many homeless dogs as he could. Today Imhof owns a dog-walking, pet-sitting and grooming business, yet continues to volunteer his time at the ACC shelter. Imhof hopes that all of the dogs he transforms act as a reminder that all any dog really needs is to feel love.
