When their beloved family dog died aged 13, Mary Westbrook consoled her heartbroken three year old son, Luke, by telling him that the beagle was now happy in heaven.
Unable to let go of his dog, Moe, little Luke asked his Mom if he could write a letter to him, something which quickly became a daily occurrence. Once he’d written his note and drawn accompanying pictures, Mary would take Luke to the postbox where they would post his letter, addressed to Moe on Cloud One, together.
However, after a few weeks of daily letters (which Mary never stamped), she was surprised to find an envelope addressed to Luke, from the mailmen at USPS. Inside they had written:
“I’m in Doggie Heaven. I play all day. I am happy. Thank you 4 being my friend. I wuv you Luke.”
