When 76-year-old Judy Muhe, suffered a shattered shoulder and a head injury after she fell over, her two Golden Retrievers saved the day.
This incredible story started when Mrs. Muhe fell over in her kitchen, and due to her head and shoulder injury, she was unable to get up. Her two Golden Retrievers, 10-year-old Higgins and 4-year-old Dodger, after seeing her injured and distressed, rushed to her side and remained there until help arrived – an entire two days later!
During those two days, Mrs. Muhe told ABC News that she was in and out of consciousness. Higgins and Dodger never left her side, they went without food or water with no complaints.
As Mrs. Muhe has Parkinson’s disease, the cold can be very harmful and dangerous for her. She says if her dogs had not kept her warm on the cold floor, she fears she might have died.
While tearfully describing the events to ABC News, she said “They stayed with me. By keeping me warm, and keeping me as comfortable as they could, the main thing was they let me know that I was not alone. Dodger kept nuzzling me with his nose and he (the second dog) was laying beside me. I don’t know what I would have done without them. I’m sorry. I just love my dogs so much.”
Mrs. Muhe was finally rescued when her close friend, Kathy Jacobs, came in to the house to check on her after being unable to reach her during those two days. She says, “When I came in we found her right away on the floor. The dogs were right here with her. They actually ran to the door and then they ran back to where she was, like showing us she was there.” Mrs. Jacobs adds that she thinks her friend, Mrs. Muhe is alive, thanks to her dogs.
Mrs. Muhe says she’s grateful for her angels on four legs and she wants everyone to be good to their pets.
So that’s the story of how Higgins and Dodger, two loyal Golden Retrievers saved the life of an elderly woman. How amazing are dogs?
