SUFFOLK, England — A black Labrador has proven yet again, just how loyal canine’s are to their owners in a time of need. The dog named Holly Blue and her senior owner Martin Kay, were out for a walk on January 18th, when the man fell into a swamp filled with mud and couldn’t get out. The man struggled for 7-hours before any help arrived but the dog remained by his side the entire time. In the end it was also Holly Blue who saved her sixty-seven-year old owner, when the search party spotted her body heat on their camera from the helicopter scouring the area.
The thermal camera used by the search party could not detect the heat off Kay’s body as he was buried within the mud and had passed out by the time help arrived at night fall. Kay and Holly Blue were out for a walk in an area they had not been in for two years when Kay tested the ground with his foot and thought it was steady enough to proceed. Instead though, once the man began to walk down the middle of the swamp the ground started to sink. A friend of Kay’s alerted the authorities at 7:30pm after he realized the man had been missing for hours.
When help arrived at the scene, the two men rescuing Kay started to sink into the hole as well but eventually they got out and Kay was taken to the hospital. Kay reveals the dog greatly helped him through the entire ordeal with her presence and that she is generally a very well-behaved dog. Kay doesn’t remember much of the rescue but he did express his deepest thanks to his rescuers and his dog. Both Kay and Holly Blue are doing well.
