WASHINGTON, D.C. – Little Ricky, a mixed-breed whose age is unknown, has arrived safe and sound on American soil.
Rescued from China’s Yulin dog meat festival, by Peter Li of HSI (Humane Society International), this little dog made the long journey from China to America with 2 cats whom Li also saved with mere moments to spare.
Little Ricky was named after actor/comedian Ricky Gervais whose impassioned pleas to end this annual event were heard around the world. Gervais himself tweeted :
“Little Ricky is one of the lucky ones – he’s now safe.”
Gervais remains committed to this cause, determined to see this annual event abolished. He will continue to speak out, working alongside HSI, using social media as his platform and will not be silenced.

Little Ricky, has become the champion for that very cause. This 15 pound dog represents all that should be saved, his face and survival story re-tweeted by thousands.
Though Little Ricky isn’t quite ready for his forever home yet, he will be soon. Currently in the care of the Washington Animal Rescue League, CEO Bob Ramin has given him the official title of “ambassador for all shelter animals”.
