BarkPost’s “Dog’s Best Day” web series has honored some amazing dogs, but this time, they celebrated an extra special one. Bretagne is the last known living 9/11 search and rescue dog and just turned 16 years old. Bretagne and her handler/owner, Denise Corliss, were deployed to ground zero as part of the Texas Task Force 1.

It was their first mission together, so, as you can imagine, they’ve been very closely bonded ever since.
There were so many heroes on that day and we at 3MD send our sincerest thanks to every single one of them. Bretagne was given a golden leash to New York, where she explored, remembered, and celebrated. In Times Square, both she and Denise were honored with a billboard thanking them for their service. Everywhere they went, the people of the city stopped and thanked them. Bretagne and Corliss have a lot of fans out there.
After doing some sightseeing, they returned to their hotel room at 1 Hotel Central Park, where a surprise birthday party was waiting. There were balloons, party hats, and of course, a cake. If you ask me, this is the best sweet sixteen I’ve ever seen. Thank you, Bretagne and Denise, thank you for everything.
Watch her celebrate and get spoiled rotten, as she should, here:
