PAINSVILLE, Oh. — When Alyssa Morrow pleaded guilty for animal neglect in September 2015 , she had no idea that her punishment would give her a taste of her own medicine. Yet, when she stepped into Judge Michael A. Cicconetti’s courthouse, a judge known for handing out unique punishments, that’s exactly what was in store for her. Morrow, who was being sentenced for leaving her 7-year-old Pit Bull mix, Moose, alone in a filthy, hoarder house for a week, was given a choice between jail or a punishment that far better suited the crime.
Judge Cicconetti gave Morrow the option of either spending 90 days in jail, or spending 8 hours in a dump collecting garbage so that she could really understand what her dog suffered through. Morrow chose the 8 hours inside of the dump, where she would spend some much-deserved time reflecting while surrounded by smelly, rotten garbage.
Judge Cicconetti is well known in his community for his creative and one-of-a-kind punishments and this isn’t the first time he has ordered a punishment that would truly teach the perpetrator a lesson. Previously, the Judge has ordered a young woman to chose between jail or to walk 30-miles after she refused to pay a 30-mile cab fare. He has also instructed one man to wear a chicken suit and for a woman to be sprayed in the face with what she believed to be pepper spray. In the particular case of Morrow, Judge Cicconetti finished off his sentencing with some memorable words, “if you puke, you puke!” This will no doubt be a lesson, Morrow won’t be quick to forget.
