At a rescue in Meltham, West York, England, a woman dropped off a Shih Tzu (named Bentley) with severely overgrown fur saturated in chemicals and oil.
“He couldn’t even drink water because his own fur would poison him.”
A woman drove up in a shiny new 4×4, and pulled on the dog’s leash to get him out of the car because she refused to touch him. He was in a terrible state, he still flinches to the touch and wouldn’t let them remove the jacket they put on him while he was sedated.
“It looked like he was thick with oil, fuel or petrol. He really, really stank.”
Kathy Trout, who owns the rescue said, “Bentley was anxious about being touched and would get aggressive if she even tried to stroke her.” He can now be seen playing with other dogs and slowly regaining his trust in humans.
Leaving him in this state is a prosecutable offense but I’m not interested in going to the police – all I want to do is make sure Bentley recovers.
He’s making great progress, “He’s running around with the other dogs and enjoying his food again – he’s put weight back on too.” He’s even giving Kathy kisses! “Now if I gently put my hand out, he will come to me and lick my face. It’s wonderful to see him so happy again.
