A family in Kings Mountain, North Carolina was devastated after the grim discovery of their treasured beagle, Libby, found headless in their backyard Thursday night.
Libby’s owners say someone hopped the fence at the house, stealing an axe, shovel and propane tank from their outbuilding, before decapitating Libby and fleeing the scene with her head.
The blind and deaf 13 year old beagle was one of the family’s three rescue dogs, living with them for six years.
The mom was at home at the time with a broken leg, but said she didn’t hear any disturbances.
Thanks to the generous donations across the country to help police find her killer, the reward has been raised from $5,500 to $18,000 as a reward for any information regarding this heinous crime.
Anyone with information is asked to contact Detective Cpl. Paul Aleander at 704-734-0444 or 704-730-2119.
The dog’s head has still not been recovered.
