TORONTO — The Save Our Scruff never discriminates when it comes to dogs in need, rescuing everything from miniature to large dogs, puppies to seniors and dogs located as far as Egypt. At the core of their organization is the belief that every dog deserves a second chance no matter what their circumstances may be.
This past week starting on September 21, Save Our Scruff demonstrated just that by dedicating an entire week to the senior dogs that they have up for adoption. Despite their additional years of experience, the rescue group wanted to show exactly why people should start paying more attention to these senior citizens that are looking for a new home. Senior dogs are often overlooked but Save Our Scruff founder Laura Bye wants to change that. When asked why people should adopt senior dogs, Bye gave a very tongue in cheek response saying:
“[These are] the guys that get you discounts on Tuesdays, cost less for public transit and are better at listening to your problems because they can’t actually hear you!”
All jokes aside, Bye believes that senior dogs can be a wonderful addition to any family and that there are certain benefits that come with adopting a senior dog. These dogs are typically calmer, far more likely to be house-trained, need less exercise and come with little to no surprises because they are set in their ways. In other words, what you see is what you get when it comes to these old folks.
