The male Border Collie-mix dog who was discovered this week on top of England’s highest mountain has been reunited with his owner. The dog who was nicknamed Scafell, after the mountain summit that he was found on, was adjusting to his life at the Scottish SPCA when his owner discovered him.
The dog who’s actual name is Sid, was recognized by his owner Jason through media posts. Upon seeing that his missing dog had been found, he immediately contacted the SPCA. Jason is a local sheep farmer and Sid is one of his working dogs. It is believed that Sid went missing when he took off after a female dog in heat. Jason had been looking for Sid unsuccessfully but was thrilled to learn that Sid was in safe hands despite no longer being in England.
The couple that originally discovered Sid, brought him back to Scotland with them after British authorities could not help locating the dogs owner. The dog had not been microchipped, which would have made it impossible to reunite dog and owner if Jason had not heard about Sid on the news. The SPCA highlights that this is yet another example of the importance of micro-chipping your dog.
Sid was ecstatic about seeing Jason again and leapt into his van ready to go home after such a long adventure.
