LONDON — As the demand for designer dogs in Britain increases, the number of puppy mills are also increasing, resulting in more and more dogs being born into neglectful conditions. To demonstrate how horrid the conditions can be, the RSPCA has published a video showing what puppies are exposed to within British puppy mills. The video shows all sorts of heartbreaking images of different breeds of puppies yelping in fear and trying to survive.
One image shows the pups crammed into a tiny blue container, while another shows puppies quivering beside pups that are already dead. The illegitimate puppy trade within Britain is increasing at an alarming rate, with only 10 percent of puppies being sold by legitimate breeders. Where as roughly 430,000 puppies come from unlicensed breeders each year. The video has been released, as the RSPCA tries to raise awareness about the British publics increased interest in designer dogs.
Although regulations to control the puppy trade industry are increasing, the illegitimate breeders are one step ahead and have already begun to outsource the pups from elsewhere. The breeders are sourcing the dogs from overseas and large scale commercial puppy farms. Once the puppies are in the UK they are stored in confined spaces and advertised online.
