Get your cameras ready. Entries are currently being accepted for the World’s Ugliest Dog Contest scheduled for June 26th at the Sonoma-Marin Fair inPetaluma, Calif., Last years winner, Peanut (pictured below and in the photo gallery), owned by Holly Chandler, has set the bar high.
Sarah Cummings, CEO of the fair, says:
“We celebrate the spirit and imperfections that make these dogs loveable and adoptable,”
Many of the entrants are rescued from puppy mills or shelters and have a unique look. Though their good looks always find a way to shine through. Their smiles (some with toothless grins, others with crooked or missing teeth) will melt your heart. These canines prove that beauty is only skin deep.
To enter the contest you must enter by midnight on the 25th of June. You’ll need to fill in Sonoma Entry Form. Pay the entry fee of $10. And submit a close-up, high resolution photo of your dog, accompanied by vaccine certificates and your pooch’s bio.
The dogs are then judged in-person at the fair on their “appearance, personality and audience interaction”.
This year there will be two awards given. One for Spirit and one for the World’s Ugliest Dog. The spirit award will be given to the dog/owner:
“who have overcome obstacles and/or are providing service to the community based on the dog’s biography”
Good luck to all this years contest entrants.
