Last Friday, a man uploaded a video to YouTube called “My cat has been peeing in the toilet for god knows how long?” Five days later and it already has almost 200,000 views and had been covered by numerous news sites.
The man says of the incident, “I noticed that someone had not been flushing the toilet in one of our bathrooms. All of the family members claimed to be flushing. I’d also noticed that the cat box was suspiciously clean (with the exception of feces). I suspected that she may be using the toilet, so I set up a video camera and let it run overnight. The video footage revealed that she was the culprit who was going in the toilet but not flushing. She apparently started doing this on her own.”
And that’s the real kicker. Lots of people purposefully train their cats to use the toilet, it’s actually not as unusual as you’d think, and there are numerous websites detailing how, and selling products to make it easier. No, the real surprise here is that this cat is somehow self-taught! While it normally takes weeks or months to gradually get cats used to peeing in a new place (they are creatures of habit that hate change), especially in the toilet, this little smarty-paws just up and did it all on her own. Amazing!
